Common-Sense Solutions for District 22

District 22 Policy Positions

Amanda and Karlie Easley are committed to refocusing Idaho's leadership on the practical issues that impact our daily lives. From strengthening our schools to ensuring fiscal responsibility, we provide solutions that prioritize results over political performance for the voters of District 22.

Our Stance on Key Issues

A detailed look at our common-sense solutions for District 22. This plan represents our commitment to practical results over political performance.

Public Education

We prioritize fully funding our public schools to ensure competitive teacher pay and modern facilities and programs that prepare our students for the workforce.

Our Plan:

1. Repeal the H93 - "school choice" tax credit. Otherwise known as the "voucher program". Idaho already has school choice - parents can continue to choose to homeschool or send their children to private schools. Idaho taxpayers should not have to pay for this. Public money should stay in public institutions that are available for all citizens.

2. Repeal House Bill 516 -  this bill limits the capabilities of the Idaho Education Association to organize and was targeted specifically at teachers (no other unions were included).  Idaho is currently #34 in teacher pay - and the IEA has been instrumental in working to improve teacher pay.  Low teacher pay this has real world repercussions on our ability to hire and retain teachers. We have to support our teachers - our future is in their classroom.

Affordability

Idaho families are struggling to get by. Costs for everything from groceries, to gas to housing has continued to increase - while wages fall behind. We keep hearing from parents whose adult children have had to move in with them - or move out of state - in order to make ends meet. Let's help all families thrive.

Our plan:

1. Housing affordability; Key steps need to be taken to ensure that out-of-state inventors are not pricing Idahoans out of housing.

- We need transparency about investor purchases and short-term rentals.

- We need housing that includes infrastructure plans - improving access to healthcare without putting additional burdens on roads, schools and other services.

2. Repeal the Grocery Tax: Idaho is one of only a handful of small states that taxes groceries - grocery tax is regressive - meaning it puts a larger burden on lower income families. While Idaho offers a Grocery Tax Credit which could be up to $250/ person if you keep all your receipts, the credit is typically not enough to cover the tax over the year and is often not fully utilized. Idaho should focus on progressive tax structures- where the wealthiest Idahoans pay their fair share.

Healthcare Access

Idaho currently has a provider shortage created from a several poor policy decisions.  Idaho's abortion law is one of the strictest in the nation - since Roe v Wade was overturned over half of our OBGYNs have left the state - and other providers have left with them.  Rural hospitals are closing due to lack of providers. Recent cuts on Medicaid have added additional hardships on our providers and hospital systems.

Our Plan:

1. Protect Reproductive Freedom: The Reproductive Freedom ballot initiative has received over 100,000 signatures - and we expect Idahoans to be able to vote on this crucial initiative. However,  our GOP supermajority has shown that they don't care what voters think as they have continued to overturn voter approved measures (term-limits, Medicaid expansion). In order to ensure that Reproductive Freedom is protected, and stop our providers from leaving - we must bring balance to the Idaho Legislature.

2. Reinstate Medicaid Expansion: In 2018, 61% of  Idaho voters approved Medicaid expansion. This year - the GOP undermined the voter- approved system, creating a law that could remove up to 34,000 people from Medicaid expansion. Many of these Idahoans are vulnerable populations who need support - not more hurdles. Voters supported it, we support it.

Environment & Public Lands

We have to protect our environment. We believe that we can grow our economy and protect our environment. We believe we can respect our public lands without putting them at risk. And we believe future generations deserve better than what we are leaving them.

Smart Infrastructure and Growth

Growth is inevitable, but it must be manageable. We advocate for long-term planning that provides the roads and utilities needed for our expanding population without placing an undue burden on taxpayers.

Balanced Budget

Our GOP supermajority has shown they can't balance the  budget. They're giving tax breaks to the wealthy - and telling the rest of us to tighten our

belts.

By creating a fair tax structure - we can help Idahoans thrive.
